A & R Service
The A & R takes great pride in providing customers with prompt, efficient service for the shipment of virtually every type of commodity, from raw materials to finished products.

From its original base of operations in Aberdeen, North Carolina, the A & R System has expanded over the years through its own internal growth and through the purchase of two additional nearby lines in 1988.
The secret of A & R's success is its ability to serve as traffic manager for its customers. With competitive connections to both CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern, as well as two short lines carriers, the A & R can offer its customers the most cost efficient routes from the point of origin to final destination
The A & R relieves customers of the headaches and hassles of rail transportation through its full-service approach. The A & R's total, seamless transportation system includes route planning, negotiating competitive thru rates from origin to destination, finding and furnishing equipment, scheduling movements, tracing shipments en route and final billing.

In addition, the A & R can have provided full intermodal transportation services. From rail to truck and truck to rail, the A & R works with a bulk liquid terminals and a dry bulk distributors. These capabilities assure customers of an efficient, reliable system of transportation whatever the product or destination.

The A & R can assure this high level of service by combining a dedicated, professional work force, including third generation A & R railroaders, with a management team that has years of experience in freight traffic management, equipment and track maintenance and operations.

A & R Service Areas
The A & R System is composed of two lines serving highly desirable industrial sites in southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina. See our System Map.

The A&R stretches from Aberdeen through Raeford, serving Unilever PCP-USA and on to Fayetteville and River Terminal, North Carolina, where Borden Chemical. Inc. has a major resin plant.
The Pee Dee River Railway in South Carolina line originates at the Pee Dee River in Marlboro Mills, home to a new Weyerhauser paper, pulp, sheeter plant as well as a MDF and Particle Board manufacturing complex. This line provides service through Bennettsville and on into McColl.

Throughout this region, you will find excellent industrial sites served by a full range of competitively priced utilities. These sites include a number of industrial parks, such as the South East Fayetteville Industrial Park in Fayetteville and the A & R Iron Horse Industrial Park in Aberdeen, both of which are owned by the A & R Railroad.
